The Hardest Footrace in the World Is Back – And It’s More Brutal Than Ever

A black line and soft colour palette by French artist Simon Charrière feature Mont Blanc and a collection of characters. This year’s poster invites you into a vivid and inspiring world. Simon’s sensitive perspective, firmly rooted in the region, has given life to a creation that reflects the spirit of the HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc — where the power of the landscapes, the energy of the runners, and the sense of community all come together. At the heart of the illustration, the environment and the beauty of the landscapes take centre stage. Glaciers, iconic summits and lush valleys — this artwork celebrates the rich diversity of the Tour du Mont-Blanc and the regions the event passes through: France, Italy and Switzerland. The flora and fauna are integral to the composition, highlighting the abundant natural heritage of these unique territories. The poster also pays tribute to all those who make the event possible: the runners, embarking on their adventure day and night; the dedicated volunteers supporting them; and the passionate UTMB community. Through their silhouettes in motion, the energy and emotion at the heart of the HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc comes alive.

The Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) returns in 2025 with its iconic 174-kilometre course through three countries. France, Italy, and Switzerland, before finishing back in Chamonix. Known as the Olympics of ultrarunning, the race has been held annually since 2003 and is widely considered the most prestigious trail ultramarathon in the world. With 10,000m of elevation gain and unpredictable alpine weather, UTMB tests both physical endurance and mental resilience like no other event on the calendar.

2025 Women’s Contenders

Courtney Dauwalter headlines the women’s race, returning to the Mont Blanc loop after skipping the 2024 edition. A three-time UTMB champion (2019, 2021, 2023), Dauwalter is known for her strategic pacing, unmatched stamina, and stoic mindset under pressure. She’ll be chasing Katie Schide’s course record of 22:37:42, set in 2024, in what promises to be a thrilling test of experience vs. legacy.

Ruth Croft (NZL) finished second in UTMB 2024 and returned strong in 2025 with a course‑record win at Tarawera Ultramarathon. She has consistently risen under pressure and adapted quickly to challenging race conditions

Abby Hall (USA) is building momentum after her 2025 Western States 100 win following a recovery from a major leg injury. She has a compelling UTMB-related back story and strong pacing discipline

2025 Men’s Contenders

With Kilian Jornet and Jim Walmsley not returning, the men’s field is wide open.

François D’Haene (FRA) is a four‑time UTMB champion. In 2025 he set the Nolan’s 14 course record—demonstrating his ability to perform at elite levels even off familiar terrain. His seasoned consistency and focus under physical tolls reflect deep mental toughness.

Jonathan Albon (GBR/NOR) brings vast cross‑discipline success and ultra expertise. Known for technical strength and efficient pacing, Albon’s versatility positions him well for UTMB’s varied terrain and high stakes

Tom Evans (GBR) stands out for strong strategic pacing and quiet persistence. After a podium in 2022 and steady form since then, he remains a key contender as a mentally resilient, focused competitor.

Mental Toughness at the Forefront

Beyond physical preparation, these athletes exemplify the 4Cs of mental toughness: Control, Commitment, Challenge, and Confidence. Whether it’s Dauwalter’s calm in adversity, Evans’ strategic control under fatigue, or D’Haene’s cool under calm or Hall’s commitment through injury recovery, each brings a mindset forged by high-stakes racing, setbacks, and unshakeable belief in their process.

With a course as demanding as UTMB, mental toughness isn’t just an edge, it’s the prerequisite.
