Emotional control can make all the difference in your next move. In employment, in parenting, in sports and in all interpersonal interactions, how you show up in the next moment has a critical impact.
If you are emotionally reactive, allowing expression of your current feelings to run wild, you have lost control of your part of a situation. When big emotions come up, practice taking a pause. Will the rage rant fix anything? Will it further ruin things? Is there a productive channel for all of those feelings?
Mental toughness is about managing your emotions in the interest of the goal. If the goal is to maintain your employment, reconsider an all out yelling match with the boss and instead consider what is actually in your control. Then work on that instead.
It helps to have aims in life so that you know where to direct the energy that stems from these emotions when they come up in critical scenarios. Be guided by your aims and be careful about what and who you allow to derail you from them.
